GigSmart / The Button Factory / Sound Training Centre '09
Good to see the bit of interest on the thread http://www.gigsmartireland.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=583 Following a meeting yesterday in the Button Factory we've developed the idea a little more here's whats going to happen. There will be a series of monthly Gigs - 7 minimum (We'll have a GigSmart presents night....Name to be decided) Most likely start end of Jan.. they will be mid week but that shouldnt really be a big deal at this stage....most people are "busy" at weekends anyway these days GigSmart & STC Team will manage the promotion - I will coordinate the bands. TBF will agree to give best curfew times and dates available. STC will provide a full crew to support the qualified staff already in place. All performances will be recorded on a multi-track session within pro tools. The multi Track sessions will be given to GigSmart and we will reveiw each performance and select a track to mix. GigSmart will make the multi track sessions available to the bands after we've selected all the tracks from all performances. The selected tracks from all performances will be compiled on to a "GS LIVE CD" Following the series of performances a launch night will be organised for the CD. CD's will be replicated and made available for launch night attendees. An online release will be organised. The line up of the launch night will depend on one thing and one thing only. An online poll hosted on GigSmart...registered users can vote for the line up. There are a few other ideas floating about to get other groups and people involved but more on that later when I have details confirmed. This will be THE PROJECT for GIGSMART in 2009 nothing else. Everyone is invited to get involved at some level or another but understand you will be expected to pull your weight Im not interested in dealing with anyone who wants to tag along for the craic or be on the guest list or whatever. The craic will be on the nights themseleves I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH - This is a voluntary effort . The Button Factory will be supporting us and making every effort to accomadate us in any way possible. The cover charge will be as low as possible but will be necessary to cover the staffing (Securty, Bar, Sound and Light Engineer) The Sound training centre are making resources and facilities available that we otherwise would not have - Many thanks to Oran for that. I will be spending a significant amount of my own time to coordinate this and get back to the basics of promoting a good night with good bands enthusiastic about pushing it to be the best it can be...seriously NO PRICKING AROUND. Finally - when the dust clears from all the mayhem there will be a two day recording session in Elektra given to the most deserving band over the series of Gigs. Once again Id like to pitch this as an opportunity for bands to get their music heard and to prove that you have your act together to make things happen FOR YOURSELF - This is an opportunity to play one of the best venues in the country with a well organised and committed crew. I suspect there will not be too many other opportunities for bands to play the Button Factory in 2009. Or aim is to create a great night EVERY night we organise a gig. This means whether your playing on the night in question or not that you participate to help make this worth while. OK so thats about it for now. NEW BANDS WELCOME / IN FACT VERY MUCH NEEDED. |

So the GigSmart gigs are back ....?
The latest news from GigSmart So whats happening? So the GigSmart gigs are back ....?
Potentially looking to do about 5-6 decently organised gigs with bands who want towork towards doing something a litter bigger than the "run of the mill" effort. These will be bands who have singles , Ep's albums either complete or in process, the gig should help in the promotion of these for the bands themselves. Its back to the basics of what made GigSmart gigs good in the first instance.
Past participation in GigSmart is not essential but understanding that you are working to help promote the other bands you share the stage with is. Finally and most importantly, this will be run and coordinated through GS and run within GS terms and conditions, i.e those described above, a rather retracted call for bands but past experience neccesitates me spelling it all out. back to the basics of what made GigSmart gigs good in the first instance. Pulling together and having a great laugh in the process |
