copied from a thread I posted on boards, I know some of you dont post there anymore who have significant knowledge in such things as Jazz bassesDoctor J. Also yous guys are familiar with the songs I play...

A simple question that I hope holds a simple answer

A lakland skyline Joe Osborn, or an American Deluxe Jazz bass...

I have looked into getting a Rick 4003, but finding them left handed is proving to be a pain in the arse.

I am really looking for something to work with my american P-bass. Something with a bit more growl/range of tone that will work well/better with effects like synth sounds and overdrives...

im a lefty too so options are limited... Also something of that shape, not mad about the warwick style/wood finish from a looks point of view...

If you can try one of these...probably one of the most versitile basses if have ever played.

Very comfortable to play and huge choice of sounds switching/blending pups

I have an L-2000 and would second that. Can get them pretty reasonable second hand.

Everyone should have a Jazz bass. There are a lot of great active basses out there, L2000 included, but you'll never find a style of music where a good Jazz bass won't have the right tone for it.

Out of the Lakland or the Fender, I don't think you'd have an issue with either, to be honest. If you can try them both out to see which feels best, do so. If you can find a lefty ESP 400 Series, do whatever it takes to get it.

That's the thing about the g&l. You have option for single or humbuck and active or passive. So you can get jazz - P - stingray, as well as a load of other combination. By the way the bass is designed by leo fender who designed the jazz, p and stingray. well worth checking out. The only thing I really can't get on it is a new metal sound.

I'm familiar with the L2000, it was I who suggested one to Kavo  . To my ears, at least, it doesn't have the capacity to sound the same as a Jazz or a P, the MFD pickups are very, very different, even with coil splitting engaged, plus you can't blend the pickups like you can with a Jazz, there's a wealth of subtle changes you can make on the J.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great bass, as I've already said, but if you've got a P, you need a J. It's the law ;)

if ya only want one bass to do loads its the l2000 i love mine to bits, adjustable poles and everything! pitty about the blending but there's already a million tones in the thing so probably for the best. ya can spend hours dicking around with tones and effects and get nothing done
